A home is one of the basic needs and necessities that people need to feel secure. We recently sat down with Rosemary Stafford, LCSW, Marriage & Family Therapist, who explained that the threat of losing your home is traumatic event not unlike a death in the family.
If you’re facing possible foreclosure, you may need to come to emotional terms with it and understand that it is a grieving process. Our BounceBack Homes Advocates have been there and helped hundreds of homeowners right where you are.
Understanding the Grieving Process
Losing a home doesn’t just happen all of a sudden. You sense the inevitable — or you see it coming from a mile away.
“Everything is very personal when it comes to trauma, to loss. And depending on the length of time, like it could be an incident that happens just once and it creates a major trauma in that one incident,” Stafford said.
“When I think of what you talk about with your homes, where people are losing their home, it doesn’t just happen like all of a sudden, oh my gosh, I’m losing my home tomorrow. It’s something they see coming. They probably have an inkling that there’s going to be a problem. They have to face it.
“Eventually you get kicked right into a grieving process. This period is one most difficult because what you experience at first is unconscious denial and shock,” she said.
People in denial push their negative emotions down because they’re too hard to accept all at once. But those feelings don’t disappear. They always bubble back up in little increments.
You Need Help from Someone Who Understands
Loss of income, divorce, medical issues — a domino effect got you here. Now you’re dealing with an immense trauma, but you don’t have to work through grief alone.
You need a guide that understands your situation. They should be kind, understanding, even-tempered and patient.
You need BounceBack Homes.
We want to specifically recognize Shaun Gilio, who was absolutely amazing. From the first time we interacted, Shaun always treated my wife and I with dignity and respect.

I would like to thank Christine and her partners, they have been so kind and caring during this process for me. And I know that Christine will always be there for me until the end. So, I thank you all, Lynda Colyer

BounceBack Has Been Where You Are
The team at BounceBack Homes knows how hard a foreclosure can be. We know that your situation may feel overwhelming and embarrassing.
“We do everything we can to be empathetic and with a client to make them comfortable,” says Don Gross, founder and president of BounceBack Homes. The first questions we ask are: what do you need? What do you need right now? How can I help you right now before we even get started with the financial processes.”
Unfortunately, in most states, the foreclosure timeline doesn’t give you time to deal with these circumstances emotionally. The days moving toward a sheriff’s sale or forced auction keep counting down, even if you don’t feel ready.
Don’t let the situation spiral and become worse. We encourage you to act quickly to preserve all your options.
Our team listens to understand where you’re coming from and then guides you every step of the way. We help you overcome your grief by empowering you to get the outcome you want and deserve.
